THE COST OF DRILLING A BOREHOLE AND FACTORS AFFECTING THE PRICES

THE COST OF DRILLING A BOREHOLE AND FACTORS AFFECTING THE PRICES

The cost of drilling a borehole might be relatively low and can also be high. The following  are the reasons for varying cost of drilling a borehole:

1. Location

The cost of drilling a borehole varies from one location (state, town e.t.c) to another in the same country and its like that all over the world. The reason for that is the fact that we do not have a particular depth to always get water, depth varies from places to places.

In some places we have water at a shallow depth ,say a few tens of metres while in other areas you may have to go a few hundreds of metres before hitting your water during drilling .By simple reasoning and calculations, the higher depth is expected to be more costly that a lower depth.

2. The terrain

An area with loose, porous soil and  permeable rock formations may require a cheaper approach as oppose to an area underlaid by fresh rock with no yielding fractures at a shallow depth. These situations requires different types of machines and different approaches to be used on site.

3. The type of machine to be used

Heavy duty machines are used in places where high depths, say  100,200,300 metres and above are required to be reached before you can get water. This machine type are more expensive to run than percussion drilling machines.

The percussion drilling machines are relatively cheaper to run but are limited to certain depth usually lower than the depth an heavy drilling machine can get to.

4. The materials to be used

The materials to be used during the drilling as all well as the materials to be used during installation of the borehole will affect the overall cost of the borehole.

Higher depths are expected to require more materials during drilling than lower depths. The cost of installing pipes,wires/cables, pump and the likes in a shallow borehole is expected to be lesser than what will be used in installing a high depth borehole thereby leading to a varying borehole construction cost.

5. Electricity

Availability of electricity will also play an important role in the total cost of drilling a borehole.Without electricity, you will either need to get a generator, get a solar-powered water pumping machine with the necessary accessories or other sources of electricity to power your pumping machine without which you may not be able to pump water.

This will increase the cost of drilling a borehole in an area with low power supplies.

In summary, the cost of drilling a borehole can vary significantly as seen in the reasons observed, however the best cost for your borehole need can be gotten from

    1. An expert in your location,

    2. The drilling companies around and

    3.  The contractor that will handle the borehole construction.

These professionals are expected to do the cost based on what you need a borehole for, with the consideration of some or all of the reasons stated above.
